The magical million
I recently mentioned there's probably at least one good thing you can do to level-up your work for the coming year, and that it's probably in one of these areas:
1. Relationships with the people who matter to you.
2. Tools for communications, experiences, and insights.
3. Programs that help your people move forward.
4. Priorities for clear decision making.
A couple of people have asked why I didn't mention funding. Money is pretty useful, after all.
The truth is I thought of it, and then intentionally left it out.
Here's why:
The areas listed above are the core components of the machine that propels your mission. Your "relationship engine," if you will.
Money, on the other hand, is merely fuel for that engine.
Think of it like this:
If someone gave you a million dollars today, would that solve all your problems?
Nope. It’s tempting to belive it would, but just having the money wouldn’t do a thing for you.
On the other hand, you could invest it in those 4 areas. To improve your relationships with your people, or your tools, or your programs, or even to allow yourself some time to sort out your priorities.
If you can do that, with or without that magical million, you’ll be moving forward effectively. Not just burning up fuel.
All the best,
A.
