A friend's three-year-old has new shoes.
I say "Dude, cool shoes!"
He smiles.
I smile.
Who benefits?

My daughter practices months for her voice recital.
We all show up.
She sings.
We listen.
Who benefits?

An organization serving a cause I care about has a fundraiser.
I give money.
They serve the cause.
Who benefits?

Here's the thing:

The good stuff in life is not either/or.
It's both/and.
